Event Details

Poets and poetry lovers, come celebrate National Poetry Month with us as we view a short DVD of the late poet, Wilmer Hastings Mills talking about poetry. Mills, who died in 2011 at the age 41, was published in numerous national journals including The Hudson Review, The Sewanee River, and The Southern Review. Several of his own books of poetry are available at the Library. As well as receiving numerous awards, he had taught poetry at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill as a Kenan Fellow in Creative Writing and served as Writer-in-Residence at Covenant College. He is now remembered with the “Wilmer H. Mills Visiting Writer” series at Hillsdale College. Mills has roots in the Baton Rouge area as he spent part of his childhood in the Zachary area where his parents still live. After viewing the DVD, poetry-related activities will be available. Light refreshments served.
