In conjunction with Black History Month, Professor Lori Martin will present “Beginning in Baton Rouge” on February 17th in room 102 at 7pm at the Main Library on Goodwood. The talk focuses on the modern day Civil Rights Movement in America with a particular emphasis on sit-ins, boycotts, and similar acts of civil disobedience occurring in Baton Rouge prior to more the notable events in cities throughout the country.  The student sit-ins at Kress, the 1953 bus boycott, the fight for high-quality schools for children of color, and the establishment of Brooks Park are among the topics covered.
