· The connection between Trauma and Drug Misuse
SESSION 1: “DRUGS…THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY”
Wednesday, September 7th, Noon -1 p.m. (targeting individuals & families impacted by opioids, stimulants and depressants)

Drugs (medication) are helpful when used as directed by healthcare professionals such as doctors, nurses, and pharmacists. However, even prescription drugs can be deadly if not used properly, and illicit drugs have greater risks. This session is designed to expand your knowledge of The Good like prescription medication, The Bad like counterfeit drugs, and The Ugly like highly potent synthetic opioids like fentanyl and carfentanil.

SESSION 2: “STIGMA KILLS… HOW TO TALK TO YOUR LOVE ONES WHO MISUSE DRUGS

What keeps people from treatment…STIGMA. Language is powerful and words we use can reduce the chances of someone struggling with substance use to seeking help. Learn how to check your feelings/attitudes/bias at the door. Learn what to say and what not to say to your loved one who misuse drugs.

SESSION 3: “TOO LIT TOO OFTEN…IS IT ADDICTION OR JUST CHILLIN’

COVID 19 is only one of the many challenges people have experienced over the past 2 years and many are looking for alternatives to dealing with life. Much too often, alcohol and drugs are sort out for a solution. This session will explore how mixing of drugs and alcohol is often the alternative to coping with life issues. Learn how drugs can be ordered as simple as ordering a pizza on the internet and the dark web.
