Event Details

The Baton Rouge Botanic Garden Foundation will host a FREE Garden Discoveries series event Saturday, May 14 at 10 a.m. at the Main Library at Goodwood led by Dr. Sheldon Johnson of the Baton Rouge Rose Society.

Would you like to learn how to choose the right rose to enhance your home garden? Would you like to know how to care for your roses? This presentation will help you enjoy the roses you select, plant and care for without their becoming a burden.

The genus Rosa includes over three hundred species and tens of thousands of cultivars. More than 11,000 are commercially available. Roses offer a wide variety of flowers and structural forms from small container patio roses to climbers and ramblers that can cover a large pergola. Some require little care and others are more “high maintenance”. Visiting rose gardens such the BREC Independence Park Rose Garden can be very helpful in choosing your roses. A tour of the Rose Garden will follow the indoor presentation

To comply with social distancing guidelines, in-person seating is limited and registration is required to attend. Register from this page or call 225-231-3750 for registration assistance.
